The Beginning
As I grew up learning multiple musical instruments, the progression into songwriting became a natural outlet for my self-expression. Through songwriting, I began to capture a spectrum of emotions, from the most intense to the subtlest, along with my imagination, secrets, and yearnings.
At the age of 17, I began sharing my original songs online. Just a few months later, my career as a singer-songwriter officially took off with the release of my single “深深 (Deeply)”, which received more than 1 million streams in just one week. This song later evolved into the advertising jingle for the "Suzhou Rice" brand and was continuously played across various media platforms in the Jiangnan region.
Although I have been songwriting for many years, all my compositions were in English until “深深 (Deeply)”. Learning that my first Mandarin song resonated so well with Chinese audiences in my hometown Suzhou came as a tremendous surprise to me!

"凡胎 (Flesh)" Debut Performance
During the summer before college, I started to receive invitations from music labels and TV programs in China, offering opportunities to appear on music variety shows or to sign as a contracted artist. While many of these offers were tempting, I eventually chose to remain independent, adhering to my original plan of attending the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University in the fall. In October 2018, I released my first EP album "凡胎 (Flesh)" consisting of three original songs all in Mandarin Chinese.

I kept writing songs at college as I strived to become a researcher. Each academic endeavor and life experience served as a wellspring of inspiration for my song –– building an analog synthesizer inspired "Robot Lover". Arranging for a string quartet for a class led to them playing on my song "Under The Moon". The challenging times of COVID-19 moved me to write "Ain’t That Hard", featuring my neighbor on background vocals. Crafting these songs merged the different sides of me. Listening back to these tracks felt like perusing the pages of a personal diary.
